Time to end a bad habit: killing spies

Every now and then an absolute gem from Lenin. This one from a ‘letter to a comrade’ in 1902.

We must get the workers to understand that while the killing of spies, agents provocateurs, and traitors may sometimes, of course, be absolutely unavoidable, it is highly undesirable and mistaken to make a system of it, and that we must strive to create an organisation which will be able to render spies innocuous by exposing them and tracking them down. Some habits are hard to break …
